Transformation: How accelerated change and multiple, global crisis are redefining leaderhsip
Leadership in the age of accelerated change (f.e. the growing influence of artificial intelligence - AI) and multiple, gobal crisis requires specialized skills and approaches to fully leverage the potential of the technology AND talent. Here are some key steps and principles that leaders should consider to be successful:
1. Understand your current situation
- Leaders / Managers should understand where they and their company stands in the middle of the current situation. How are geopolitics affecting their market? What do clients want (in the future)? How is competition positioning itself? How is technology (especially AI) changing how (our) products and services are being rendered? What are my options (also financially)?
2. Strategic Clarity
- Leaders need to be clear on the direction they want to take the company and how they want to achieve their objectives.
- Having run multi-million and even billion Euro businesses, I know how important it is to take enough time (at the beginning / especially if you are a new CEO or investor/owner) for this exercise and bring in a neutral, experienced, and external perspective for extra support.
3. Define what "good" looks like
- Establish clear performance metrics and desired outcomes for your goods and services
4. Talent development
- Managers must be able to find, win, excite, and develop top talent - consistently, as they will be the ones making the difference between success and failure.
- Especially new, young leaders, for all their talent and energy, are more successful (faster) with experienced, senior executive coaching and advice.
5. Gather Data
- Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement
6. Encourage Feedback
- Get regular feedback from clients and employees to understand their pain points and get suggestions
7. Analyse and Prioritise
- Analyse the data and feedback to identify the most impactful areas of improvement
8. Implement Changes
- Develop and test solutions and implement the most promising ones through pilot projects
9. Measure - Refine - Standardise
- Track impact of changes and continue iterating and refining based on results
- Identify and document best practices to ensure consistency across projects
10. Create a Culture of Learning
- Foster a continuous learning environment where experimentation and improvement are encouraged
- Encourage (informal) collaboration in and between teams and departments to share knowledge and learn from each other's experiences
Overall, it is important for investors and leadership teams to take a proactive role in their organizations by developing a clear vision and strategy, providing the right resources, and promoting a culture of innovation and collaboration.
